Stanbic Ongea Digital Creators Summit launched in Kampala

KAMPALA, November 28, 2025 — Stanbic Bank Uganda in partnership with Uganda Communications Commission [UCC], Ongea Africa and the Uganda Digital Society have launched a new national platform aimed at equipping young digital creators with world-class skills, business tools, financial literacy and responsible content practices.

The partners formally announced the upcoming Stanbic Ongea Digital Creators Summit 2025, which will on December 11, 2025, convene regulators, creators and media stakeholders at Speke Resort Convention Centre, Munyonyo, in Kampala, to discuss the future of Uganda’s fast-growing digital and creative economy.

Stanbic Bank’s Marketing and Brand Manager, Lois Aber Kwikiriza while speaking at the media launch of the upcoming event at ONOMO Hotel in Kampala today, said youth and women remain central to Uganda’s social transformation.

“For today’s young people, content creation isn’t only about expression; it’s a practical avenue for earning. Content creation is not just entertainment; it’s a pathway to real jobs and income. With youth numbers rising, the digital creative economy is filling gaps traditional jobs can’t,” she said.

President of Uganda Digital Society, John Ssenkenzi, welcomed the initiative, saying the summit comes at a critical moment for Uganda’s digital landscape.

“We are looking forward to this summit, especially for the creators who are shaping meaningful impact in our digital society. Uganda is ripe for creator-led growth.”

He noted that the Society is working with key partners like Ongea Africa, Stanbic Bank, UCC and the Red & Yellow Creative School, to advance digital practice and strengthen the 2025 summit.

“Content creation is not about hashtags. It’s about authenticity, professionalism and value that resonates with audiences and brands. Skills development is critical. As we build partnerships, it’s not about chasing trending hashtags; it’s about delivering real value in a voice that remains authentic.”

Ssenkenzi added that while AI regulation is important, the greater opportunity lies in enabling creators to harness AI responsibly for scalable, authentic growth.

The Uganda Digital Society emphasised that talent alone is not enough, creators must be supported with the skills, structure and professional standards required to monetise sustainably.

Kwikiriza noted that with Uganda’s population being approximately 75 percent youth, Stanbic Uganda continues to invest in digital skilling, financial literacy and advocacy for clear regulation to ensure a safer and more profitable creator economy.

Uganda’s creator sector is already reshaping the media landscape, with many young creators earning more than some traditional media outlets. Digital platforms now command larger audiences, higher engagement and growing commercial influence.

As part of its commitment to the #StanbicOngeaDigitalSummit25, the partners also announced a Digital Content Creator Annual Prize, featuring five scholarship-based awards:

  • Creator of the Year
  • Financial Literacy Creator Award
  • Entertainment Excellence Award
  • Emerging Creator Award
  • Social Impact Creator Award

Kenneth Tweheyo, representing UCC, said the Commission was proud to partner on the initiative.

“The Stanbic Ongea Digital Creators Summit 2025 aligns perfectly with our mandate under the Communications Act of 2013.”

Tweheyo noted that UCC’s work spans four key areas — licensing, consumer protection, innovation and digital transformation — all central to Uganda’s expanding creator ecosystem.

He highlighted ongoing efforts to increase digital inclusion:

“Innovation drives everything we do. At the UICT Innovation Hub, we support every idea completely free, bring your concept and we’ll help you take it further. Uganda has 45 million active SIM cards but only 17 million internet users. We’re working to close this gap by increasing access to smart devices and empowering more people to get online and create opportunities.”

The launch signals a major multi-stakeholder push to strengthen Uganda’s creator economy, one of the country’s fastest-growing, innovation-powered sectors.
