SERERE, December 28, 2023 -The Speaker of Parliament of Uganda Anita Among has pledged to contribute Shs 20 million to Okabe Foundation to support Savings and Credit Cooperative Organisations [SACCOs] in Serere district.
This was revealed recently by the NRM National Vice Chairman Eastern region Capt. Mike Mukula during the thanksgiving ceremony of the late Patrick Okabe and his wife Toto Christine Okabe at Oburin village in Serere district.
Okabe at the time of his death in December 2022, was the Member of Parliament Serere Serere County in Serere district.
Mukula urged the people of Teso to unite, saying that the problem in the area has been disunity.
“The problem with Teso is that you are divided and if you don’t unite do not say Museveni doesn’t like you,” he said.
He noted that the Teso Parliamentary Group, an association of members of parliament from Teso Sub-region has not met since the demise of Okabe who was their chairperson.
Mukula pledged to support the current Serere County MP Emmanuel Omoding come 2026 parliamentary elections. Omoding is the son of the late Okabe.
Hellen Adoa, State Minister for Fisheries thanked the political leaders in Teso for the love shown to the family of late Okabe.
Adoa praised the late Okabe for promoting unity in Teso and urged other political leaders to honour his legacy.
The minister said she would not allow disunity in Serere district, urging locals to work together despite their political differences.” We want to work together as one people to develop Serere,” she said.
