The conference to be held in Nairobi, Kenya from October 6-9, 2025, is expected to attract hundreds of participants including ministers, government leaders, cooperative leaders, development partners, and other stakeholders from across Africa for a high-impact forum that will shape policies, foster strategic partnerships, and ignite action for sustainable cooperative growth.

It will be held under the theme: “From Commitment to Action: Leveraging Global, Regional, and Local Partnerships for Sustainable Cooperative Development in Africa”.

The 5th International Forum on Cooperative Law

Meanwhile, the 5th International Forum on Cooperative Law will take place in Tanzania from November 13-14, hosted by Moshi Cooperative University in collaboration with Ius Cooperativum and the ICA Cooperative Law Committee [ICA-CLC.

To be held under the theme “Cooperative Law and Sustainable Development: Past, Present and Future,” the Forum will explore the evolving relationship between cooperative legal frameworks and sustainable development through a rigorous juridical lens.

The Forum brings together lawyers interested with international, regional and national cooperative laws. It is a platform for sharing experiences on diverse cooperative law issues.

It is part of the events marking the 2nd International Year of Cooperatives within 13 years that the United Nations General Assembly declared in 2023 [UN Doc. A RES 78/289]. The Forum will explore the relationship between cooperative law and sustainable development from a juridical perspective.

While related ideas, such as ‘cooperatives and development’ and ‘cooperatives and sustainable development’, as well as concepts, such as ‘cooperative law and development’, ‘law and sustainable development’ and especially the encompassing concept of ‘law and development’, which have evolved throughout the history of modern cooperatives with varying intensity and weight, have received considerable attention, ‘cooperative law and sustainable development’ has hardly been dealt with yet.
