Proceeds of Empango Marathon dedicated to Kikuube health facility

KIKUUBE- The Omukama of Bunyoro-Kitara Kingdom DR. Solomon Iguru  Gafabusa has dedicated the proceeds of Empango Marathon to the Kikuube district Health Center IV to procure theater items.

The marathon that took place last evening was held to mark the Omukama’s 28th coronation anniversary and attracted thousands of subjects of the Kingdom.

The runners were flagged off  by the Kingdom’s Prime Minister Andrew Byakutaga from Chambers adjacent to Karuzika Palace in Hoima town

The marathon is one of the pre-activities to commemorate the King’s 28th coronation anniversary commonly known as “Empango” and is to be held this Saturday at the kingdom palace.

Omukama Iguru was enthroned the King of Bunyoro Kitara Kingdom in 1994 after the National Resistance Movement [NRM] government restored the Kingdom which had been abolished by former executive Prime Minister and President, the Late Apollo Milton Obote in September 17, 1967.

The Omukama in his message read for him by the Kingdom Prime minister Andrew Byakutaga applauded his subjects for embracing the Empango run. He said that it is a symbol of unity that the people of Bunyoro have shown.

He said proceeds from the marathon will be used to purchase theater lights and an air conditioner for Kikuube Health Center IV in Kikuube district.

This year Empongo will be different since Omukama Iguru will not perform cultural rituals because of his health condition.

According to Byakutaga the Empango day this time will have kingdom officials and the subjects hold Prayers only.

According to Leonard Kusemererwa, the director of spice and Chairman of the Mpango run, theater lights and an air conditioner will cost Shs 22 million.

He noted that this was the 5th Empango run and commended the Kingdom subjects for supporting the run by buying the kits.

He noted that they have released the funds, adding that they have already ordered for the equipment from the Joint Medical Stores and promised that they will be delivered within three weeks.

Peter Banura, the Kikuube district Chairman lauded Omukama’s plan to equip the health facility, adding that they will boost the health service delivery at the facility.

He noted that recently the Ministry of Health deployed an anesthetist to start carrying out operations at the facility adding that the theater has been lacking adequate theater rights and air conditioners.

Steven Itza, the Buhaguzi east MP, said that the health sector in the district is facing several challenges that need concerted effort to address and applauded Omukama for offering a helping hand to Kikuube Health Center IV, adding that equipment will help in offering better service delivery to the Kingdom subjects.

Michael Ayeranga, the Bunyoro region NRM mobiliser commended Omukama for the Empango Marathon, saying that it signifies unity and promotes fitness and restoration of Bunyoro Kitara kingdom glory. He rallied the kingdom subjects to always support the royal event.
