Police: Minister wants better houses for officers

TORORO- The Minister of State for Disability, Hellen Asamo has appealed to the Uganda Police Force [UPF]administration to provide better houses for its officers in recognition of the duties they perform.

The Minister said the current status of houses being inhabited by police officers in the country is too shaming.

“The state of the Police’s accommodation is discouraging other Ugandan citizens from joining the police force,” she said.

The minister made her appeal on Friday while officiating at the decoration and peeping exercise of police officers from Bukedi South police region who were promoted in the recent promotions in the force.

‘’It’s time that we need to get out of ‘’ Mama Yingiya pole’’ houses and construct decent houses for the police officers considering the duties they perform besides promoting them,’’ the minister appealed.

Asamo further congratulated the officers for having received a promotion but implored them to work hard to protect the new rank that they have received.

The decorated officers were drawn from Butaleja, Busia, and Tororo districts respectively.

Meanwhile, the minister of state for Defence and Veterans Affairs, Jacob Oboth cautioned the armed officers against the misuse of arms.

“We urge you to exhibit professionalism while executing their duties,” he said.

Among those promoted were the Bukedi South Regional Police Commander [RPC] Julius Caesar Tusingwire who had attained promotion rank of Assistant Commissioner of Police among others.
