Police arrest 26 over death of Wazalendo Sacco boss

KAMPALA– Police have confirmed the arrest of at least 26 suspects on allegations of killing a senior UPDF officer from a guest house in Kampala.

According to police, Major Joseph Mukuraine, also a manager of Wazalendo Sacco, Entebbe branch, was found dead in Birunga Lodge, Kiwatule, a suburb in Kampala.

Kampala metropolitan police spokesperson Patrick Onyango said that the soldier booked in at the guest house on Wednesday at night and was found dead on Friday morning.

“He was discovered dead in his bathroom. The cause of death is not yet established but the case is under inquiry,” he said.

Onyango explained that the 26 suspects were arrested through a joint security agencies operation to help in investigations.

“We are screening them using fingerprints picked from the screen and surface touches at the scene- and using the CCTV footage that was picked from the hotel,” he said.

While leaving Entebbe, records show that he signed for shs 24 million which was not recovered.

The soldier’s body was picked from the crime scene and taken to Mulago City Mortuary for post-mortem on Friday.
