PDM enterprise groups in Mbale City receive cash

The launch of the third phase of the disbursement of the funds amounting to Shs 300 million was presided over by Mbale Resident City Commissioner [RCC] Asumin Nasike on Monday

MBALE City, August 28, 2024 – The Parish Development Model [PDM] beneficiaries under different enterprise groups in Industrial City Division in Mbale City have a reason to smile after receiving money to invest in the various enterprises selected.

The launch of the third phase of the disbursement of the funds amounting to Shs 300 million was presided over by Mbale Resident City Commissioner [RCC] Asumin Nasike on Monday.

Three hundred beneficiaries of the programme in the wards of Malare, Wakwaba lower, Mooni, and Nambaale, each received Shs 1 million on their mobile phones as per the guidelines of the programme. The money is paid back to the parish revolving fund [PRF] after a grace period of two years.

Some of the beneficiaries expressed excitement as they received the funds to kick start their projects in the agricultural value chain such as piggery, poultry keeping, agribusiness, and beekeeping among several others.

Irene Kai, a beneficiary appreciated the government for giving her the money and promised to implement her project. “I’m going to use this money to open a small agri-business. It will improve my life,” she said.

Nasike urged the beneficiaries to use the money as planned since it is a soft loan to be paid back with some small interest as indicated in the programme.

She also cautioned the Parish Development Committee [PDC] leaders against undermining the integrity of the PDM initiative.

The PDM was launched by President Museveni in February 2022 and sets an ambitious target of lifting 17.5 million Ugandans from 3.5mln households out of poverty.

Under the programme, government through the Finance Ministry earmarks Shs 1.059 trillion every financial year for all the 10,594 parishes in Uganda, each receiving Shs 100mln.

The programme which government began funding form the financial year 2022/2023 represents the government’s latest endeavor to combat poverty and stimulate economic transformation.
