Serere County MP by-election: Omoding to continue supporting father’s initiatives
SERERE – Emmanuel Omoding, the son of the Late Patrick Okabe, the former Member of Parliament who represented Serere County, has pledged to continue supporting his father’s projects if he is voted to represent them in the Parliament of Uganda.
Omoding made the promise during his nomination on Thursday in Serere district where five aspirants were nominated to contest in a parliamentary by-election to replace the Late Okabe.
“For the people of Serere, I am here to accomplish papa’s projects and I encourage you to come in big numbers to vote for me,” said Omoding.
He said that he would continue supporting the youth and SACCOs in Serere district.
The Late Okabe was the founding Bishop of the Mbale City-based Impact Ministries, Faith FM, a Christian radio station, Impact Orphanage School, over 157 Women SACCOs in Serere Constituency, Impact Women SACCO and Rhema High school in Soroti City.
Meanwhile, Emmanuel Lumala Dombo, the director of information and publicity at the National Resistance Movement [NRM] Secretariat promised the people of serere district that government would improve roads, provide more funds under the Parish Development Model [PDM] as well as empower the youth through different programmes to enable them to sustain their lives.
The national vice chairperson of NRM, Moses Kigongo, vowed to boost services in Serere district if they vote for the NRM flag bearer- Philip Oucor who contested against the Late Okabe in the last elections.
Kigomgo cautioned some of the NRM leaders of abusive language and intrigue, saying they need to unite and work together.
Five aspirants were nominated: Emmanuel Omoding (Independent), Alice Alaso [Alliance for National Transformation], Martine Onguruco [Independent], Philip Oucor [NRM], and Emmanuel Enatu [Forum for Democratic Change].
Those who never turned up were Gilbert Etomet [Justice Forum] and Joel Obore of the National Unity Platform which has decided to support veteran politician Alaso.
The nominated candidates will conduct campaign meetings for nine days, beginning February 13-21, 2023.
Polling and tallying of results for the by-election will be conducted on February 23, 2023.
The Parliamentary seat for Serere County fell vacant following the death of the former Member of Parliament, the Late Okabe in a motor accident in Budaka district on December 19, 2022.
