Over 40 PDM SACCOs in Kumi receive cash for beneficiaries

KUMI – A total of 1,083 Parish Development Model [PDM] beneficiaries in Kumi district have a reason to smile after their PDM SACCOs received the funds for disbursement.

According to Kumi district officials, 47 PDM SACCOs have so far received a total of Shs 938, 579,000 to be disbursed to their members.

The list shows that in Ogooma Sub-county four PDM SACCOs with 127 beneficiaries received Shs 92,479,000 and three SACCOs in Kumi Sub-county with 56 beneficiaries received Shs 53,700,000.

He said all the PDM SACCOs in Kumi district will receive the money. He made the remarks on Thursday while addressing the PDM beneficiaries.

He stated the PDM SACCOs in the district have been cleared to send money to beneficiaries.

Washaki said all the local government administrative structures and the parish leaders in charge of the implementation of the PDM are set to administer the programme as guided by President Yoweri Museveni.

The PDM was launched by Museveni in February 2022, in the eastern district of Kibuku in Bukedi Sub-region, which is one of the poorest in the country.

Each parish is supposed to get Shs 100 million Parish Revolving Fund [PRF] for commercial production under the PDM as government aims to move 3.5 million households still trapped in the subsistence economy to the money economy.

The RDC said the five-year programme would improve incomes of the households targeted as they engage in activities such as coffee farming, dairy farming, poultry keeping, and piggery, among other enterprises, with government committed to provide over Shs 1 trillion each financial year for the beneficiaries.

The PDM, according to the government, is an extension of the whole-of-government approach to development as envisaged under the Third National Development Plan [NDPIII], with the parish being the epi-centre of all the activities.
