Otuke district receives Shs2.7bn for Okum seed school
Otuke – In line with government’s policy to have secondary schools in every sub county across the country, government will construct two secondary schools in Otuke district.
The schools according to the Chief Administrative Officer [CAO], Alfred Malinga include Okum and Ogwete secondary schools in Ogwete sub county.
“I am happy to report that Otuke district will get another seed school in Okum under an intergovernmental fiscal transfer program funded by the World Bank at the cost of Shs2.7bn,” he said.
“The valuation has been concluded and what is remaining is to submit the valuation report to Ministry of Education and Sports for no objection,” he says.
He says the Ministry of Education and Sports has also earmarked the construction of a secondary school in Ogwete under Uganda National Secondary School Expansion program.
He further said, with Okum seed school the community has already availed the land for construction while for Ogwete they are still getting a lot of challenges in getting the land.
Malinga recently briefed the State Minister for Education and Sports, Denis Hamson Obua at the commissioning of Ogor seed secondary school. The school was among 117 constructed under intergovernmental fiscal transfer.
He said, they have signed Memorandum of Understanding [MoU] with Ogwete Catholic Church to avail them with the land but the only challenge is to get the land title.
“Even if we signed an MoU with the church where the facility is going to be constructed, the school should be titled with its name,” he says adding that they are still engaging the church to see how they could proceed.
The development will bring the number of government secondary schools in Otuke to seven which include Adwari, Okwang, Orum, Otuke, Ogor, Okum and Ogwete. Baralegi technical school is also inclusive.
The technical school is located near Baralegi Presidential State Lodge in Okwang and was established to help parents who could not afford sending the children to pursue secondary education to instead go for technical skills.
The district LC5 Chairperson, Francis Abole says, the district has received Shs302m for emergency repair for Barocok, Aboko, Anep Moroto and Amono primary schools.
Abole also said, the district should be considered among the hard-to-reach district because civil servants when posted to work in the district sometimes turn it down.
