Omoro school gets computer lab, two new classrooms
OMORO-Lelaobaro Primary School in Omoro district now has a fully-fledged solar-powered computer laboratory courtesy of Ssubi Foundation, a non-governmental organisation collaborating with the district to improve service delivery at the school.
The laboratory has 24 computers, CCTV camera system, chairs, and desks to support the learner and teachers as they use the technology.
Jackie Cherop, the Omoro district communications officer told this reporter that Ssubi Foundation also constructed two new classrooms, renovated others, and constructed a five-stance ventilated pit latrine.
Cherop said that with support from the Foundation, plans are underway to recruit an IT technician who will be based at the school under the supervision of the district IT officer.
According to Cherop, the new facilities are in memory of the war victims of the Lord`s Resistance Army, which spanned over two decades, leaving hundreds dead.
Douglas Peter Okello, the Omoro district LCV Chairperson said the computer laboratory would help learners and teachers acquire IT knowledge and skills.
“It is good that we have a fully-fledged computer laboratory which is powered by solar, which means IT lessons will not be interrupted by power outages,” Okello said.
Brigadier General Charles Otema Awany, who was the chief guest at the commissioning of the facility, urged teachers in the district to be committed while teaching learners.
Otema appealed to the community members to develop and cherish positive attitudes towards learning.
“Our community needs to change their mindset towards education. We, as a sub-region, are lagging behind in regard to education and that explains the poverty level in the region. When people are educated, they can easily take part in development projects,” Otema said.
