Alupo pledges Shs 50mln for AMDF SACCOs

SOROTI – The Vice President, Jessica Alupo has pledged to support Ateker Muslim Development Foundation [ AMDF ] SACCOs with Shs 50 million to boost their income generating activities.

The Shs 50mln is geared towards helping SACCOs formed by Imams in Teso and Karamoja sub-regions.

“We shall mobilise Shs 50mln for the Ateker Muslim Development Foundation to boast their SACCOs,” Alupo said.

Alupo who represented President Museveni made the remarks at the 2nd Annual Ramadan Convention held at the Widows’ Conference Hall mid-last week.

She urged the Muslim leaders to create wealth and jobs for the young people and continue living in peace.

Alupo also commended the efforts of the leaders in the mobilisation of the Muslim community to fight against household poverty in Teso and Karamoja sub-regions.

She further called upon the Muslim leaders to pay attention to their children’s education. “When those[children] are educated, it makes it easy for them to address the day-to-day challenges in life,” Alupo said.

In his message read by Alupo, Museveni commended the Muslim leadership in the country for embracing programmes geared towards moving 39 percent of the households still in the subsistence economy into the economy.

“I am happy to note the determination of Muslim leaders in championing the fight against poverty and backwardness in their respective communities,” Museveni said in his message.

He urged Muslim leaders to continue mobilising communities to engage in activities that create wealth and jobs for young people.

Abubakar Obilan, the chairperson and executive director AMDF noted that leaders should always have time to discuss issues of development.

He said that the Shs 50mln would help boast the SACCOs of the Imams in the fight against household poverty.
