SOROTI – Environmental activists in Teso-Sub-region who have been sensitising communities on climate change will now move smoothly after receiving bicycles from Shine Africa Foundation -Teso [SAF-Teso], an indigenous Ugandan non-profit organization.
The bicycles procured at a total cost of Shs 117 million were delivered by Buffalo Bicycles Uganda Limited over the weekend.
According to Michael Anguria, the chief executive officer SAF-Teso, they have recruited activists to sensitise communities on the dangers of climate change.
Among the activists who received the bicycles were civil servants, media practitioners, members of village health teams [VHTs], and village leaders among others.
Anguria said his organisation focuses on environmental conservation, public health, care and treatment of patients with HIV/AIDS.
On his part, Dr. Charles Okadi, the Soroti district health officer pledged to support the VHT with more logistics whenever there is a need.
He requested SAF-Teso to continuously support the VHTs bicycles for easy mobility.
Margret Emuria, the Soroti district community development officer commended SAF-Teso for supporting social causes.
Hellen Akalo, one of the beneficiaries who works as a district coordinator for HIV/AIDs activities appreciated SAF-Teso, saying the bicycles will ease her work.
“I can now ride to those nearby places to monitor government programmes,” he said.
Joyce Mary Achola, another beneficiary from Napak district said she will easily help patients, especially pregnant mothers to visit health centres.
SAF-Teso, a faith-based non-governmental organisation works to create a sustainable change through educating, informing and empowering the communities, with programmes rooted in advocacy for human rights, gender equality, governance, accountability and policy for sustainable change.
