BRUSSELS, November 24, 2023 – Two new members joined the International Cooperative Alliance [ ICA ] in November 2023, further strengthening the global apex body of cooperatives.

According to the ICA, the ACDI Multipurpose Cooperative from the Philippines and the Fédération Nationale des Unions Régionales des Sociétés Coopératives des Producteurs de la Filière Anacarde [FNURSCPFA] from Côte d’Ivoire.

ACDI serves over 200,000 members from the Armed Services of the Philippines [AFP] and other uniformed personnel, including active service, retirees, and civilian employees.

The cooperative provides a range of services to members, including savings, loans and insurance products. It also operates a flying school and a tour agency and is involved in agricultural production and retail.

The largest cooperative in the country, ACDI runs 138 offices across the Philippines, employing over 1,000 people. “We believe that being a part of the International Cooperative Alliance will not only provide us with valuable networking opportunities but will also allow us to collaborate with like-minded cooperatives from around the world,” say cooperative members..

FNURSCPFA is a national federation whose members are secondary or tertiary agricultural cooperatives. Its 19 direct members represent more than 100,000 individual members.

FNURSCPFA works to improve the working conditions and life of members, promote the cooperative principles in agricultural cooperatives, conduct research, develop the cooperative movement, advocate for cooperatives, and act as an external control body for its members.

The main motivations of the cooperatives for joining the ICA are to share experiences and promote the cooperative movement.

The ICA has now 306 member organisations of which 268 are Full Members and 38 are Associate Members from 102 countries.
