Nathan Nandala Mafabi Bugisu Cooperative Union (BCU) Board chairman has been sworn in following last November’s elections were Nandala worn unopposed.
Nandala who has taken over office for his third term as BCU Chairman, revealed that focus will majorly be on three issues such as mobilization of farmers to grow more coffee and sell through BCU, look for market for coffee globally and also invest more especially in real estates to bring other sources revenue to the union and improve on the beauty of Mbale Town by building modern buildings.
In the ceremony that was presided over by Grade I Magistrate Daniel Obupu who represented the Mbale High Court Judge Nandala also called for the review of liberalization policy to promote cooperatives adding that the policy in its current state frustrates collective bargaining power.
Other Board Members sworn were: John Musila as the Vice Chairman, Nathan Mabonga as treasurer and the following Directors: Isaiah Sasaga, Canon Michael Lulonde, Eddy Wanambwa, and Florence Wantsala.
BCU term of office has been of two years but there is a proposal to increase to either four or five years and it is still pending awaiting the Minister’s approval.
