Nairobi To Host Validation Workshop on National Cooperative Gender Platform

KAMPALA, March 14, 2025 – The International Cooperative Alliance Africa [ ICA–Africa] Gender Equality Committee is set to host a pivotal Validation Workshop on the establishment of the National Cooperative Gender Platform [NCGP]. Scheduled for March 28, 2025, the hybrid event will bring together a diverse group of stakeholders to refine and validate the NCGP framework.

The workshop aims to address systemic gender barriers within cooperatives and promote inclusive policies and practices. It will serve as a focal point for advancing gender-responsive initiatives, ensuring representation and empowerment of women and marginalized groups in cooperative governance, leadership, and decision-making.

According to the concept note seen by this reporter, key objectives of the workshop include reviewing and validating the NCGP’s components, gathering feedback from stakeholders, aligning the platform with national and international gender policies, and fostering collaboration among government bodies, cooperatives, civil society organisations, gender experts, and international partners.

Participants will engage in presentations, group discussions, and plenary sessions to provide structured input and suggestions. The expected outcomes include a validated operational framework for the NCGP, clear action plans for gender-responsive initiatives, strengthened cooperation among gender equality advocates, and a comprehensive report summarizing the workshop’s discussions and recommendations.

The event will among others comprise introduction to the NCGP, group discussions, and a plenary session for group presentations. The workshop will conclude with closing remarks and outlining next steps, followed by lunch and networking.

This workshop marks a significant step towards gender inclusivity in cooperatives, aiming to build consensus around actionable steps for promoting gender equality and empowering women within the cooperative sector.

“The Validation Workshop on the National Cooperative Gender Platform will be a critical step in ensuring that cooperatives across the countries in Africa become more gender-inclusive,” organisers say.
