Museveni urges MCs to be ambassadors of wealth creation

Museveni urged the MCs to leverage their platforms to promote government initiatives such as the Parish Development Model [PDM] and Emyooga, which are designed to help Ugandans combat poverty and generate wealth

IGANGA, October 31, 2024 — President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has called on Masters of Ceremonies [ MCs ] in Busoga to become ambassadors of wealth creation in the subregion, emphasising their role in contributing to the country’s socio-economic transformation.

The President made the remarks yesterday in a speech delivered by Faruk Kirunda, Special Presidential Assistant for Press and Mobilisation, at Sikezy Hotel during a gathering of the Busoga MCs.

The Busoga Cultural and Events Speakers Association [BUCESA], led by Meddy Dhakaba, comprises over 250 MCs and aims to unite its members while promoting professionalism and discipline within their profession.

Museveni urged the MCs to leverage their platforms to promote government initiatives such as the Parish Development Model [PDM] and Emyooga, which are designed to help Ugandans combat poverty and generate wealth.

“Use the ceremonies to sensitize the public about wealth creation,” he stated through Kirunda. “When people create wealth, they can host parties that you can MC. If they are poor, they won’t be able to organize such events.”

He encouraged MCs to be role models in their communities and to help shift local mindsets toward positive development.

“MCs can build or easily break the nation,” Museveni remarked, highlighting the importance of unity among them. He urged them to use their microphones to promote peace and stability in the country.

The President also criticised leaders, particularly those from the ruling National Resistance Movement [NRM], for failing to use the media effectively to mobilise and educate the public about government achievements. “By not utilizing the media, you allow enemies of the government to sow instability,” he cautioned.

During the event, Museveni contributed Shs 10 million to the new Savings and Credit Cooperative Society [SACCO] of the MCs association.

Iganga District Woman Member of Parliament Sauda Kauma Alibawo expressed gratitude to the President for his leadership, which enables Ugandans to exercise their rights, including freedom of speech. “Thank you, Your Excellency, for empowering Ugandans through the 1995 National Constitution,” she said. However, she warned that this freedom should not be misused to destabilise the peace in the country.

The event was attended by several dignitaries, including NRM Chairperson for Iganga District Abubakar Walubi, Busoga Minister of Information Michael Kifubangabo, Jinja Northern Division Deputy Resident City Commissioner Hamis Kiganira, Iganga Assistant RDC Blessing Mubbi, and Namayingo Assistant RDC Yakut Kalange, among others.
