Museveni boosts Otuke SACCOs with Shs 100mln

OTUKE – President Yoweri Museveni has pledged Shs 100 million donation to support Saving and Credit Cooperative Organisations [SACCOs] in Otuke district.

Museveni offered the donation as he camped in the Lango sub region, meeting leaders in Lango, Acholi, Karamoja Sub-regions at Baralegi State Lodge in Okwang Sub County in Otuke district.

Museveni’s support to the SACCOs followed a request by the Otuke district Woman Member of Parliament, Susan Abeja who said she had offered to donate Shs 50mln to the SACCOs in her district.

“As a woman Member of Parliament, I have offered them [SACCOs] Shs 50mln and as a father we are also looking at you. Please give us something to support our SACCOs,” Abeje appealed to Museveni at Baralegi Primary School.

Accepting to give the SACCOs the financial support Museveni said: “My daughter [Abeja] has given you [SACCOs] Shs 50mln, now if a child has already given that amount, how comes that the father can give something less than Shs 50mln. “I will give Shs 100mln to support the SACCOs.”

He asked leaders to help citizens fight household poverty by engaging in production and formation of SACCOs.

MP Abeja further said village savings and loan associations [VSLAs] in the country have accumulated savings of about Shs 1 billion.
