Mufti Mubaje advises Lango Muslim leaders to safeguard properties

LIRA -The Mufti of Uganda, Sheikh Shaban Mubaje has advised the Muslim leaders in Lango Sub-region to protect their properties against encroachers, further urging the leaders also to register the properties with Uganda Muslim Supreme Council [UMSC] for easy supervision.

The Muslim properties in the region include Lira Primary School land, Lira Main Mosque, Iddi Amin Mosque, Lockups in Obote Avenue, Lango Quran Primary School land among others.

Mubaje who recently visited Lango and held talks with the Muslim leaders there advised them to observe transparency and collect revenue from the properties and remit it to the UMSC.

“All properties including lands should be registered under Uganda Muslim Supreme Council and be managed by legitimate people appointed by the authority,” Mubaje said.

Mubaje sacked Sheikh Abdul-Aziz Hussein, the northern Uganda regional Khadhi, accusing him of failing to perform, conniving with people to grab property and being academically unqualified.

He was replaced with Sheikh Musa Khalil who has been working as the district Khadhi for Acholi Muslims district.

He said Hussein has disappeared with their properties and wants police to charge him for abetting a crime.

“He was not performing and at the same time working with people who are against the unity community in Lango and other areas,” he said.

He called upon the Muslim community in the country to remain calm and focused while waiting for the general election of Muslim leaders.

The Lira resident City Commissioner, Lawrence Egole urged the Muslim community to embrace brotherhood and value their leaders starting from the supreme council down to the smallest unit.

He said they have the potential to create wealth among themselves if the revenue being collected from Muslim properties within Lira city are properly utilised.

Egole also urged them to acquire land titles for their properties because it will save them from land grabbers and illegal buyers.
