MTIC to conduct Cooperative Clinic in Jinja City

KAMPALA, January 27, 2026 — As part of a nation-wide drive, the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Cooperatives [MTIC] will conduct a Cooperative Clinic in the Busoga Sub-region from February 2-5, 2026.

According to the Registrar of Cooperative Societies, Robert Bariyo Barigye, the Clinic will be held at Kakindu Stadium in Jinja City under the theme “Service delivery: our priority.”

Barigye said the Cooperative Clinic is intended to raise awareness of services offered by MTIC, other Ministries, Departments and Agencies [MDAs], and development partners to cooperative societies. The event will also provide an opportunity for cooperatives and other stakeholders to engage directly with MDAs on issues affecting their operations.

“The Cooperative Clinic is aimed at increasing awareness of the services offered by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Cooperatives, MDAs and partners to cooperatives, while providing a platform for direct engagement on matters affecting their work,” Barigye said in a letter addressed to district and municipal commercial officers and other government officials in the Busoga Sub-region.

In the letter dated January 13, 2026, Barigye called upon chief administrative officers and town clerks in the districts of Bugiri, Kaliro, Mayuge, Namayingo, Iganga, Kamuli, Luuka, Bugweri and Buyende to mobilise cooperatives in their respective jurisdictions to participate in the Clinic.

“The purpose of this communication is to request your office to mobilise the cooperative fraternity in your jurisdiction to participate in the Cooperative Clinic,” he stated.

He added that the Clinic will feature cooperative registration services, with a dedicated desk to provide information and support for both first-time and permanent registration. Other activities will include general advisory services and two daily training sessions focusing on governance and compliance, targeting both cooperative members and leaders.

Cooperatives in the Busoga sub-region are largely focused on agriculture, particularly sugarcane farming. Key initiatives in the region aim to revive and strengthen cooperatives, support local farmers through Savings and Credit Cooperative Organisations [SACCOs], improve value chains, and expand access to government-backed financial support. Major areas of focus include improving access to credit for sugarcane farmers, regulating cane prices, and enhancing agricultural value addition.
