MPs urge journalists to engage in business
KIBAALE– Members of Parliament from Greater Kibaale have advised journalists to establishing business ventures that can supplement their meager salaries.
The call was made by the Members of Parliament from Kibaale, Kakumiro, and Kagadi, which make up Greater Kibaale. This was during the fourth Annual General Meeting [AGM] of Bunyoro South Journalists Association [BUSOJA] at Star Light Hotel in Kibaale district on Saturday.
The MPs were led by Buyanja East legislator Dr. Emely Kugonza who advised journalists to ensure that they start up projects to enable them to sustain themselves economically.
“Don’t rely only on your jobs but during your free time you can do other things to supplement your salaries,” he advised.
Kugonza also commended the journalists for putting in place a savings group.
“Forming a saving group is the only way to go if you are to supplement on the meager earnings you get from your workstations,” he added.
During the same AGM, the journalists also conducted elections whereby Jamil Tumusiime was elected as the president, deputised by Caroline Tumwesige, Thomas Tumwebaze secretary, Moses Kyaiswa treasurer and Vincent Turamye secretary for publicity.
Santrina Kenema was elected the coordinator Kagadi district, Prince Moses coordinator Kakumiro, and Victor Akugizibwe coordinator Kibaale.
According to Jamil Tumusiime, the BUSOJA president, the association was formed with the aim of enhancing the welfare of journalists, protecting rights of both Print and electronic journalists in the districts of Kagadi, Kibaale and Kakumiro.
“I promise to ensure BUSOJA’s members are united and their welfare is enhanced during my term of office,” he explained while giving his inaugural speech.
The members of parliament also donated Shs 6 million towards the development of the association.
Kugonza and Matia Kasaija the finance minister donated Shs 2 million cash each while Kibaale Woman MP Noeline Basemera and Buyaga East MP Eric Musana Acaali donated Shs 1 million each.
Bugangaizi South MP, Josephat Tumwesigye also pledged more funds to the association.
