MPs deliver medical beds to Bulambuli health facilities

BULAMBULI – The Members of Parliament in Bulambuli district have delivered medical beds to health facilities in the district to improve service delivery.

The items which included 54 maternity beds among others were sourced from the Ministry of Health.

The Bulambuli district Woman MP, Eng.Irene  Muloni said the items were secured to equip the theatres and maternity wards.

The Bulambuli district health officer, Dr. Vincent Natega said they have already distributed the items to different health centres.

“We received 30 beds from Woman MP, Muloni and eight from three constituency MPs.We allocated eight beds to Muyembe Health Centre IV, four beds to one health centre III and one bed to each health centre II,” Natega said.

“These beds will improve on service delivery because inpatients have been sleeping on the floor, especially Muyembe Health Centre IV where we constructed a maternity ward but without beds,” he said.

Beth Nakusi, the in-charge Muyembe Health Centre IV said that the biggest challenge at the facility is admissions.

“The patients have been sleeping on the floor. Daily we admit eight expectant mothers on average. Though these [beds] will boost us, we still have a big gap. We need more beds at the facility,” Nakusi noted.

Bulambuli Resident district commissioner, Stanley Bayole said there’s an improvement in the health sector by arresting civil servants who misbehave at work.

Bayole said he has so far arrested three health workers in the district over misappropriation of primary health care funds.

MP Muloni said her interest is to ensure better health service delivery in Bulambuli district.

While handing over the medical supplies, MP Muloni warned of corruption in the district.

She said government plans to have a hospital in every district, health centre IVs in every constituency, and health centre IIIs in every sub-county remain on course.

Muloni said, “We looked at accommodation in health facilities as one of the key issues. We lobbied for hospital beds, which we have delivered to various health centres in the district.”

“With my colleagues, the MPs, we agreed that we distribute the beds to those facilities that are really in need and I have fulfilled that objective. We shall continue lobbying for more beds and other items because as a district we still need many but would we would like to thank the government for funding the health sector in the country,” she said.
