KWANIA, September 24, 2025 — The Member of Parliament for Kwania North County, Bob Okae, has urged residents to either join or form Savings and Credit Cooperative Organisations [SACCOs] as a vital step towards economic empowerment.
Speaking at the official launch of Apire B Mechanics SACCO Limited at BBM Hotel recently, Okae stressed the importance of cooperative membership as a gateway to accessing government support and development initiatives.
“If you’re not part of a group, you can’t predict the direction others are taking. I appeal to you to join or form SACCOs and adhere to cooperative principles. This is the only way you can attract meaningful support from both the government and leaders,” he said.
Okae contributed Shs 1 million to bolster Apire B Mechanics SACCO’s savings. His counterpart, Kwania District Woman MP Kenny Auma, also donated Shs 800,000 in support of the SACCO.
Auma called on voters in Kwania to set aside political party differences and focus on electing competent leaders who can lobby for development projects to help lift communities out of poverty.
“We want to create fundamental change in the livelihoods of our people. Let’s not focus on political affiliations. I was elected alongside MP Okae; together, we brought ambulances, constructed hospitals, and continued supporting Village Savings and Loan Associations [VSLAs]. I encourage you to vote for leaders who can deliver development,” she said.
Call for transparency and good leadership
Denis Aweri, Chairman of the Kwania District Business Association under the Uganda Chambers of Commerce, advised SACCO leaders to uphold accountability and operate with integrity.
“Accountability and transparency are essential for the SACCO’s success. Above all, avoid corruption if you want this SACCO to endure. Many SACCOs have collapsed due to corrupt leadership. We have placed our trust in you, please do not let us down,” he said.
Patrick Ogwang Obia, LCV Councillor for Chawente Sub-county and current UPC candidate for Kwania District LCV Chairperson, encouraged residents of Kwania North to continue supporting MPs Okae and Auma for sustained socio-economic transformation.
“I urge you to give them your full support and return them to the 12th Parliament to continue the work they’ve started,” Obia said.
