he award honours outstanding youth-led cooperatives that drive significant social and economic change

RABAT, September 4, 2024 – The National Prize “Generation of Solidarity” has once again showcased the dynamism and ingenuity of Moroccan youth in its fourth edition, themed “Youth: Creators of a New Generation of Cooperatives” organised by Morocco’s Ministry of Tourism, Handicrafts and the Social and Solidarity Economy [MTAESS] and the Office of Cooperation Development [ODCO].

The award honours outstanding youth-led cooperatives that drive significant social and economic change. This year, 27 cooperatives, selected from 217 entries, were recognised for their innovative projects in sectors such as agriculture, handicrafts, and sustainable tourism.

Since its inception in 2021, the prize has supported 125 youth cooperative projects with financial aid, thanks to partnerships with the Ministry of Tourism, Handicrafts and the Social and Solidarity Economy, the ODCO and key players such as the OCP Foundation, the Regional Councils of Fès-Meknes, Guelmim-Oued-Noun, the Oriental, Dakhla-Oued Eddahab, Jaida, Dar Al Moukawil, CIH Bank, Crédit Agricole and Copag Cooperative.

Meanwhile, in a demonstration of its commitment to environmental sustainability, Awach Savings and Credit Cooperative recently participated in its third annual green footprint initiative. The cooperative joined a nationwide movement to plant trees. This year’s event, held at “Yeka Forest” in Yeka Sub-city recently, witnessed a remarkable effort by the cooperative’s management board, staff, and other guests, who collectively planted over 300 endemic tree seedlings.

Mekdes Hailu, Deputy Corporate Manager of Awach, noted that this initiative represents a long-term commitment to future generations likening the nurturing of seedlings to caring for children. Beyond its environmental efforts, Awach continues to foster a culture of saving among children through dedicated savings accounts, empowering them to secure their financial futures, underscoring its holistic approach to sustainability.
