NAMISINDWA – A prominent money lender in Namisindwa district was Sunday midnight attacked and robbed of Shs10 million at his home.
According to police, John Luwengele, a resident of Wafuluya cell, Lusantsa ward in Magale town council was hacked as he tried to fight off the robbers.
Luwengele is nursing wounds at Mbale Regional Referral Hospital after thugs attacked him with machetes, sticks, and hoes.
Elgon region police spokesperson, Rogers Taitika said on Monday they had started hunting for the suspected robbers.
“We are investigating aggravated robbery of Shs10m. It is alleged that on Sunday at around midnight six men dressed in black jackets covering their heads with head socks armed with machetes attacked the home of Mr Luwengele and robbed him,” Taitika said.
He added: “The thugs hit the wooden door and gained entry. They started beating him as they demanded for money. They later took him outside where they cut him on the head, threatening to kill him which forced his wife to direct the suspects to the wardrobe where Shs 10m was.”
The victim was first rushed to Magale Health Centre IV in Namisindwa district for medication where he and later referred to Mbale Regional Referral Hospital.
However, the canine dog introduced to the scene led police detective es to the home of one Abdu Mwasame Khweyi who ran away on seeing the police detectives.
Khweyi’s home was searched and exhibits recovered. Among them was a shirt with suspected blood stains soaked in water in a small container.
This case is being investigated under CRB 109/2023 of Namisindwa.
