MASINDI– Masindi district has started training the Parish Development Model [PDM] implementers at all levels across the district.
The training of the PDM implementers was conducted days ago by the selected heads of departments in the district
Those trained included; sub-county chiefs, the town clerks, extension officers, parish chiefs, and the town agents.
Others trained were the community development officers and agriculture officers among others. They were drawn from all the 15 sub-counties and town councils in the districts.
The trainees were taken through enterprise selection, SACCO formation, and profiling of subsistence households in their areas of jurisdiction.
Apparently, the training for the leadership at sub-counties and parishes is ongoing.
Godfrey Bahemuka, the District Community Development Officer, told theCooperator News that by 15th June, all SACCOs will be getting their money.
“We want to finish this process before the end of the financial year. We have equipped the implementers with enough knowledge and they’re now ready to start the process,” he said.
Moses Kalyegira, the District Commercial Officer, explained the principles and the values which should be followed while forming the SACCOs.
Recently, senior religious and cultural leaders in Bunyoro Sub-region were also trained on their roles in the implementation of the PDM.
The training which was organised by the Ministry of Gender Labour and Social Development was graced by the Prime Minister of Bunyoro-Kitara Kingdom, Andrew Byakutaga, and Matia Kasaija the Minister of Finance Planning and Economic Development.
Byakutaaga appreciated the government for introducing the PDM as well as other government programmess aimed at improving the welfare of the people, adding the kingdom is as well encouraging its subjects to fight poverty.
“The kingdom has also started rolling out a desired model household project which aims at empowering households to boost household incomes and food security. I am optimistic that with the introduction of PDM the people’s livelihood won’t remain the same,” he argued.
President Yoweri Museveni launched the PDM and government has earmarked Shs 490 billion for PDM.
There will be PDM SACCOs through which organised groups will be able to obtain financing for development.
For the start, Masindi district has received Shs over 700 million.
