MASINDI, December 12, 2025 — National Resistance Movement [NRM] sub-county leaders in Masindi district have formed a Savings and Credit Cooperative Organisation [SACCO] to boost their economic well-being.
The move was announced by NRM Chairperson Masindi, Kabakumba Labwoni Masiko during a recent campaign rally at Golf Course in Masindi town.
The SACCO brings together leaders from Masindi’s 18 sub-counties, divisions, and town councils.
President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, while campaigning in Masindi, pledged his support for the SACCO and instructed Prime Minister Robbina Nabbanja to coordinate with the leaders to facilitate this assistance.
Development and water concerns
Museveni urged the people of Bunyoro to appreciate the region’s development projects under the NRM government. He expressed concern over Masindi’s low water coverage, noting that only 196 out of 417 villages have access to safe water. He tasked Nabbanja with addressing this issue.
He promised the renovation of Kabalega S.S and Kabalega Primary School, along with the upgrade of several Health Centre IIs to Health Centre IIIs.
Museveni also challenged residents to embrace government poverty alleviation programmes and promised to consider Masindi for the Uganda Support Infrastructure to Municipalities Development [USIMID] project.
PDM progress
Kabakumba reported that Masindi Municipality and the district have received and disbursed Shs 11 billion under the Parish Development Model [PDM], a government initiative aimed at fighting household poverty.
She also lauded the construction of Masindi Hospital, with staff quarters nearing completion and the Outpatient Department soon to commence.
Kabakumba advocated for the upgrade of Kyatiri Health Centre III to Health Centre IV and an increase in beneficiaries and courses at the presidential skilling hub.
She raised concerns about land grabbing by the Uganda Land Commission and political infighting among NRM flag bearers and independents.
The Speaker of Parliament Anita Annet Among urged Museveni to fulfill outstanding pledges he made to the people of Masindi, thus construction of schools, and improvement in the roads and markets.
