Masindi district local government injects Shs 1.9 billion in the roads sector
MASINDI– Masindi district local government has embarked on working on its four major roads which have been impassable for a long time.
Masindi district council committed to Shs 1.9 billion towards improving the roads such that people can move easily to access markets and other services.
Some of the roads which are going to be worked upon include Murujeje Mburabuzo 10 kms road in Kijunjubwa sub county valued at Shs 619 million, Kasongoire Nyakyenju- Kimanya and Bwinamira swamp in Budongo sub county at Shs 670 million, Kyatiri- Kitanyata 10 kms road in Kiruli sub county at Shs 414 million and Biraizi- Kilanyi 7 km road in Labongo sub county at Shs298 million.
Engineer Sunday Joseph, the district acting Roads Supervisor said the construction is going to take two months adding that they’re going to do bush clearing, grading and shaping, desilting of blocked culverts and full graveling among others.
He asked the beneficiaries to cooperate with them more especially where they deem it necessary to widen roads.
Cosmas Byaruhanga, the Masindi district LCV says, his objective is to ensure that the road network in the district is improved such that people can easily move to access the markets.
“We are still lobbying for more money to ensure that other roads are also worked upon. The greatest challenge we have is the big road network. We are calling upon the central government to help us take some of the roads,” he said during the launch of the construction of the roads last week.
He warned the contractors to desist from doing shoddy works and encouraged the residents to closely monitor the road construction projects since they are the direct beneficiaries.
“Make sure that you monitor the works being done. In case you suspect an irregularity inform the authorities. We are not going to tolerate any shoddy work. The team I am working with is very strict,” he said.
Emmy Ngabirano, the Resident District Commissioner [RDC] Masindi warned the project contractors and the residents against fuel siphoning saying that whoever will be got will be arrested and taken to the courts of law.
Residents jubilate
Residents jubilated after seeing the machines on different roads saying that they’re happy since movement is going to be easy for them.
James Mugisa explained that they have been grappling with the impassable roads noting that to they had curtailed their movements.
“We would fail to access services like health due to these poor roads. Our children have been suffering with bad roads while going to school. We thank the government for considering us,” he said.
