Masindi Clerics urged to include message of development while preaching word of God
MASINDI, November 28, 2024 – Kampala Minister Kabuye Kyofatogabye has urged religious leaders in Masindi district to incorporate the message of development alongside the preaching of the word of God to their congregations.
Kyofatogabye made the call recently while presiding over the thanksgiving ceremony for Pastor Eric Gumaoshabe, Leader of Eric Healing Ministries in Rukondwa Village, Bikonzi Subcounty, where he represented Internal Affairs Minister, Kahinda Otafiire.
“Government has put in place many enablers to help people improve their household income, and I am calling upon religious leaders to encourage their congregations to engage in economic activities. Tell people to work. I am pleased that Pastor Eric is already doing this,” Kyofatogabye said, urging religious leaders to embrace various government development programmes.
“We have numerous programmes such as Emyooga, the Parish Development Model [PDM], the Youth Livelihood Programme [YLP], and the Uganda Women Entrepreneurship Programme [UWEP], among others, which you should get involved in. The government has done its part by building infrastructure. Use these excellent roads the government has constructed to transform your lives. Don’t just be spectators; use the roads to transport your produce to the market,” he advised.
He added that an economically empowered society is less likely to suffer from poverty, domestic violence, and preventable diseases.
Voting able leaders
The minister further encouraged Masindi’s leaders to always vote for those who can influence the government to bring development programmes to the district.
Former Member of Parliament for Bujenje County, Patrick Paddy Kasumba, expressed concern over the increasing theft of cattle and other livestock in the county, calling on security agencies to intensify patrols.
“We are approaching the festive season, and theft in various forms is likely to rise. We need your help in providing a patrol vehicle to assist us in combating these crimes. The one we have in Bujenje is grounded,” he appealed to Kyofatogabye.
He also urged the people of Masindi to use the prevailing peace as an opportunity to transform their lives economically, emphasising that there is no excuse for anyone to remain poor when[ government has made available various poverty eradication programmes.
Pastor Gumaoshabe, who leads a congregation of over 6,000 Christians, shared his vision of empowering people both economically and spiritually.
He added: “I started this ministry in 2020, and initially, people were not working. I am teaching them to grow both spiritually and economically. I am planning to set up demonstration farms here, including for piggery, poultry, and beekeeping. My goal is not to make money but to transform lives in every way. I also want to thank the government for supporting the transformation of people at the household level.”
