Shs 73mln raised for construction of Mama Kevina Spiritual Centre

SOROTI-Over Shs 73 million was raised towards the construction of Mama Kevina Spiritual Centre, which is being constructed in Nkokonjeru, Buikwe district.

The money raised during the launch of the celebrations of the Perpetual Profession of the Little Sisters of St. Francis Eastern Region over the weekend at Hilders Primary School in Soroti City.

The building estimated to cost Shs 7 billion will comprise 100 rooms that will serve as a retirement home for the old nuns and a skilling place for the youth.

Sr. Rita Christine Nakitende, superior general, said the youth would be able to learn skills in carpentry, mechanics, bricklaying, and agricultural skills among others.

“It will accommodate the youth who are vulnerable and need skills too,” Nakitende said.

Nakitende says that since they have a lot of land youth who are vulnerable should be able to utilise their time well while engaging in agriculture so that they can fight poverty.

She appreciated people of Teso for the generosity shown to them and called for more financial support for the project.

Meanwhile, Mary Josephine Nabuyungo, the chairperson of the Little Sisters Association encouraged all the people working with institutions that were established by Mother Kevina to continue supporting her cause.

Bishop of Soroti Catholic Diocese, Rt. Rev. Dr Joseph Eciru Oliach urged the Perpetual Profession of the Little Sisters of St. Francis Eastern Region to keep focused on selfless service and promote solidarity among all people in the communities.

Oliach added that healthcare, education, and socio-economic empowerment are still needed in the communities.

“We pray for an increase in vocations so that once again the Little Sisters can animate every aspect of our ministry, particularly in education and healthcare,” he said.

Gweri County Member of Parliament, Tom Julius Ekudo called upon other legislators in the area to support the Christians towards the building of the spiritual centre.
