Local University conducts capacity building workshop for managers of coop societies in Nigeria

ABUJA, April 22, 2024 – Skyline University Nigeria [SUN] recently conducted a capacity-building workshop for managers of cooperative societies in Kano State. The event which took place at the campus attracted over 50 participants from different cooperative societies in the state.

Shehu Bala, the Director of Cooperative Societies from the Kano State Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Solid Minerals, said he was excited to see participants from different cooperative societies coming to SUN to learn how best they can manage their enterprises.

He said that the ministry’s collaboration with SUN will undoubtedly open a new chapter for the development of cooperatives in the country.

Presenting a paper during the workshop, Abubakar Baba Bello delved into the legal aspects that guide the operations of cooperative societies in Nigeria.

He said legal aspects the most crucial when it comes to running cooperative societies. He talked about leadership, elections, bye-law review and conflict resolution.

On their part, Lawal Trimisiyyu and Muhammad Aliyu from the Department of Management at SUN made presentations in both Hausa and English on people management. They stated that fairness, equity and diversity are the pillars upon which a team is built and sustained.

Meanwhile, the Dean of the School of Arts, Management and Social Sciences, Dr. Sudha Mavuri and Dr. Adamu Usman Musa, a lecturer from the department of Economics at SUN, explained the concepts of branding, value creation and financial discipline.

They explained that in order to make cooperative societies great in Nigeria and ensure their sustainability, cooperatives must explore opportunities for profitability by learning from the successes of other cooperatives in the world.
