Lira Catholic Diocese to ordain priests and deacons

LIRA– Lira Catholic Diocese is set to ordain eight priests and deacons to boost Christian ministry work in Lango Sub-region.

The candidates according to Bishop Linous Wanock include Aaron Ojok, Moses Opio, Ceasar Okello. Douglas Ogwal, Rogers Okello, Emmanuel Opio Etam, and Isaac Ojok.

The ceremony is scheduled for August 4, 2022, at Uganda Martyrs’ Catholic Cathedral Lira and is expected to be presided over by Bishop Wanok.

“It is the date on which four deacons will be ordained into the order of priesthood and four serious candidates will be ordained as deacons,” Bishop Wanok said.

According to the bands for holy orders, the seminarians will be ordained into the deaconate order. They include Francis Otim, Denis Okello Odyek, Leo Ocen and Sem Ceaser Okello of Bala Catholic Parish in Kole.

Bishop Wanok said before their ordination, the candidates should be publicly announced on three Sundays starting this week to enable the Christian community to gauge them.

He said the band for the ordination of these candidates into the holy orders be publicly announced during Eucharistic celebrations in the main parish church and chapels, especially where the candidates hail from.

He added that the purpose of this public announcement according to Canon Law 1043 is to allow the Christian faithful who may be aware of any impediment to sacred orders to reveal to the Bishop or parish priest before ordination.

Wanok has asked the Christian community to join these candidates in fervent prayer.

The Vocations Director of Lira Catholic Diocese Rev Fr. Denis Omara the Diocese has kick-started all the necessary preparations for the ordination of the new priests and deacons.

According to Fr. Omara the candidates will be taken to Alokolum National Major Seminary for a retreat that will run for a period of one week starting on July 26, 2022.
