LIRA, January 13, 2025 –– Lango Diocese has ordained 26 priests and recalled retired senior priests to support pastoral work across the 79 parishes in the diocese.
The Bishop of Lango Diocese, Prof. Alfred Olwa, presided over the ordination ceremony that was held recently at All Saints Boroboro in Lira City East Division, Lira City.
During the ceremony, 20 ordinands were ordained as deacons, while 6 deacons were elevated to the rank of reverend.
Retired Rev. Jacky Milton Otoo Olima, who had been relieved of his duties a month ago, was recalled and redeployed as Archdeacon of Lira Urban Archdeaconry. Retired Rev. Canon Nelson Ogali was also redeployed as Archdeacon of Obot Archdeaconry in Bar Sub-county.
Bishop Olwa also made significant redeployments among the clergy, including Rev. Sadrack Ogwal from Obanga Pe Wany to Alebtong Vicarage, Capt. Apollo Owiikene from Boroboro to Orum in Otuke, and ABC Abaca from Amuca to Adyel.
Other redeployments include Rev. Moses Ogwal from Angweta Angweta to Holy Trinity Barogole, Rev. Jimmy Mark Ajon from Orum Archdeaconry to Amolatar Archdeaconry, Rev. Felix Ogwang Ocen from Nambieso to Barapwo Archdeaconry, and Rev. Canon James Okaka, who was moved from Lira Archdeaconry to Bishop’s Commissary, among others.
Bishop Olwa noted that the addition of new priests will help the church reach out to the multitudes in need of spiritual guidance.
He urged them to carry the message of poverty eradication to their congregations and to work towards transforming lives.
He also reaffirmed the diocese’s commitment to aiding the poor and called for support from government institutions to provide quality planting materials to the people.
Senior Presidential Advisor, Sam Engola praised the Church’s role in improving lives and encouraged Christians to support the priests who have dedicated themselves to Christ’s mission.
