Kotido District Council Charts Path to Achieve Development

KOTIDO, April 4, 2025 – Kotido District Council recently convened at Court Hall in Kotido town to discuss critical development issues, reaffirming its commitment to regional transformation and community welfare. This gathering brought together council members, local leaders, and other stakeholders to identify the key priorities for the district’s transformation.
Presiding over the session, District Speaker Emmanuel Lodio called for unity and collaboration to achieve meaningful progress for Kotido residents. “We must work together, united in purpose, to bring about the positive change our community deserves,” Lodio emphasised.
He also highlighted the importance of championing initiatives that directly address community needs, such as inclusivity and effective governance.
On his part, the Kotido District LCV Chairperson, Lotee Paul Komol, presented key agenda items, including compensation for victims of cattle theft, boundary resolutions to enhance administrative efficiency, and measures to combat the detrimental impact of illicit alcohol. “Peaceful coexistence is fundamental to fostering stability and prosperity in our district,” Komol added, stressing the need for sustainable peace and unity.
In terms of fiscal responsibility, Kotido stood out as the only district in the Karamoja region to secure a supplementary budget of Shs 21 billion to fund transformative development projects. These include access to clean water, healthcare, improved road networks, and equitable education.
Komol also addressed the rising issue of school fees, urging collaboration to ensure that education remains affordable and accessible for all children. “Education should be a right, not a privilege,” he asserted.
For his part, Kotido Resident District Commissioner, Charles Ichogor, lauded the district’s progress in fostering peace and unity.
Ichogor called upon communities to embrace government programmes and sustain collaborative efforts for long-term growth. “Together, we can create lasting change and ensure the prosperity of our people,” Ichogor remarked. His sentiments echoed the council’s overarching vision of harmonious development and transparent governance.
During the council session, Kotido’s leadership showcased its unwavering dedication to addressing community concerns, emphasising the importance of transparency and accountability. The council reaffirmed its commitment to prioritising critical issues such as infrastructure development, access to medical supplies, and resolving social inequalities.
Through innovative strategies and collective action, Kotido district is setting a model for sustainable and inclusive development. As the meeting concluded, a sense of optimism prevailed. Kotido’s leaders are charting a transformative path for the district, combining visionary planning, transparency, and collaboration to unlock new opportunities for all.
