Kiryandongo: Youth groups receive value addition machinery

KIRYANDONGO, April 29, 2024 – The Office of the National Chairman [ONC] of the National Resistance Movement [NRM] has donated value addition equipment to 45 youth groups in Kiryandongo district to empower them economically.

Hajati Hadijah Namyalo, the Head of ONC handed over the equipment last Friday at a function held at Bweyale Church of Uganda Primary School.

The equipment include spray pumps, chips making machines, groundnut grinding machines, timber grinders, popcorn machines, shaving machines, and sewing machines among others. The youth are expected to use the tools to create their own jobs.

Handing over the equipment, Namyalo challenged the people of Kiryandongo to always demand proper service delivery and different government programmes.

“This is our humble start and next time we are going to come for women. Ensure that you use these equipment to start something beneficial. Ensure that the equipment you have taken are put under proper use because they are aimed getting you out of poverty,” she said.

She also called upon the youth to that they form groups to enable them benefit from different government programmes.

“It’s our right to advocate for better service delivery because we are the beneficiaries. It’s our constitutional right to demand for services and other government programs like the Parish Development Model [PDM], Emyooga and Uganda Women Entrepreneurship Programme [UWEP] among others.

The youth expressed their gratitude to ONC for giving them equipment, saying that they are better than handouts. The youth also received maize seeds and hoes from Namyalo.

“We thank NRM for this opportunity. Our biggest problem is capital to procure these equipment. We are going to use them to start something which will be helping us earn a living,” said James Odongo from youth Alive Group in Bweyale town council.

“I want to thank ONC for remembering the youth in Bunyoro. They have the skills but lack the equipment to use. I am sure that they won’t remain the same after receiving the value addition equipment. We are mobilising more youth to join or form groups,” explained Brian Tunuura, Coordinator ONC Bunyoro Sub-region.

On her part, Edith Aliguma, the LCV Chairperson Kiryandongo district commended ONC for considering the youth in her district, arguing that most of the youth have skills but don’t have the equipment to implement their income generating projects.

“What you have brought to them is going to help them advance their skills and we still need more if there is an opportunity. The whole of Kiryandongo is NRM and we want you to inform President Yoweri Museveni that we going to be behind him in 2026 presidential election,” she noted.

In the same vein, the Resident District Commissioner  Kiryandongo, Dan Muganga appreciated  Namyalo for supporting the youth in Kiryandongo, adding that the equipment received will help them fight poverty.
