Kikuube LCIII leaders get motorcycles, asked to popularise PDM
KIKUUBE – Sub-county chairpersons [LCIIIs] in Kikuube district have been challenged to use motorcycles acquired from the government to mobilise communities to embrace the Parish Model Development [ PDM ] and other government programmes that were initiated to fight poverty.
The Kikuube District Resident Commissioner [RDC] Amlan Tumusiime said that the government is implementing several programmess such as PDM, Operation Wealth Creation [OWC], and Emyooga a programme, adding that such programmes need to be popularised by the leaders.
He made the remaks while handing over seven motorcycles to sub-county chairpersons from Kyangwali, Kabwoya, Bugambe, Buhimba and Kizirafumbi sub-counties, Buhimba and Kiziranfumbi town council.
He noted the Motorcycles have come at the right time when the government is implementing the PDM, adding that they will help the leaders to easily move around their sub-counties as they mobilize and sensitize the local communities about the government programmes.
He noted that PDM is a magic bullet that can help farmers to move out of poverty if they are prepared well by the leaders.
He noted that motorcycles were procured by the Ministry of Local Government on the orders of President Museveni.
“You have been facing challenges of transport to reach communities in your area and your council could not afford to buy them for you. But I am happy that the government has responded to your challenges and now I hope you have no any excuse,” Amlan said.
Peter Banura the Kikuube district boss warned the Beneficiaries against missing the motorcycles and challenged them to use the facilities to mobilize farmers to engage in production.
He expressed concern that communities have remained poor despite several government initiatives implemented for poverty alleviation, adding that there is need for different stakeholders to sensitise the populace on, mindset change.
“We do not expect you to use these motorcycles in Boda-bodas and carrying waters and firewood, go and use these motorcycles to supervise and monitor government programs and projects in your areas” he warned
Ibrahim Juma and Joseph Kwatiramunda the sub-county Chairperson of Buhimba town council and Bugambe sub-county respectively expressed excitement about the received motorcycles, saying the machines will ease their transport.
They noted that most of them have been hiring motorcycles to move around the sub-counties after the ones which were first provided to sub-counties got old and were no longer functioning.
“The new motorcycles are a big relief to most of us, who have been hiring public transport to move around our sub-counties and am happy that the problem of transport is solved,” said Juma.
Musa Mugisa the Chairperson of Buhimba Town Council commended President Museveni for fulfilling his pledge, adding that the new motorcycles will help in enhancing service delivery in the communities.
