Kayunga to host agro-industrial park aimed at boosting commercial farming

The facility, to be known as the Lusenke Kayunga Agro-Industrial Park, is expected to boost farmers’ incomes while accelerating commercial agriculture across the three districts

KAMPALA, April 27, 2026 — Farmers in Kayunga, Luwero and Mukono districts have a reason to celebrate after the government allocated at least 1,200 acres of land to a Chinese investor for the establishment of an agro-industrial park at Lusenke in Kayunga district.

The facility, to be known as the Lusenke Kayunga Agro-Industrial Park, is expected to boost farmers’ incomes while accelerating commercial agriculture across the three districts.

The park will host processing factories for pineapples, oranges, mangoes and passion fruit, as well as facilities for handling food crops such as potatoes, cassava and plantain, among others.

Strategically located near the Isimba Hydro Power Station to ensure a reliable power supply, the project is projected to create at least 200,000 jobs for young people, including trained graduates in engineering, value chains and logistics.

It is also expected to prioritise sectors such as tourism, mineral-based industrialisation, science, innovation and technology, providing opportunities for value addition, job creation and export growth.

The investor, Paul Zhang, proprietor of the Sino-Uganda Mbale Industrial Park, has expressed interest in transforming Kayunga into a major agro-industrial hub.

Speaking during a recent meeting with investors in Kampala, the State Minister of Finance for Privatisation and Investment, Evelyn Anite, commended Zhang for his commitment to investing in Uganda and for attracting other Chinese investors to the country.

“Our vision is not just to dream of a US$500 billion economy but to turn this dream into reality. We are looking at practical investments that will transform our economy and create opportunities for Ugandans,” she said.

She added that the government plans to roll out several key projects, including a solar energy plant and a chemical manufacturing factory, to support the growth of integrated one-stop centres for logistics and industrial activity.

Zhang said he is looking forward to managing several industrial parks under Tiantang Group, aimed at attracting international investors in sectors such as mattress manufacturing, electronics, household goods and mineral-based products for export.

The Lusenke Kayunga Agro-Industrial Park is expected to develop into a self-sustaining ecosystem, complete with schools, hospitals and shopping facilities to support workers and their families, thereby spurring local development.

Zhang was accompanied by the Deputy General Manager of Shenzhen Mingyang Technology Company, who pledged to establish a production facility for battery storage solutions and other industrial power systems to ensure a stable energy supply.
