UBL launches App for beer deliveries

You sit in your office, make an order and a truck will come

Uganda Breweries Limited (UBL), one of the largest two brewers, has launched a digital application so agents and large bar owners can place quick orders for beer to be delivered at their doorstep at any time of day or night.

UBL launched the app in Mbarara over the weekend and was represented by its Managing Director, Kenyan national Andrew Kilonzo.

The app was named “Diageo One” and it is already available on the main playstore for installation on any smartphone.

“It gives me great pleasure to launch our e-Platform,”Kilonzo said to applause.

After filling in your relevant order details, he added: “You just click the button and it will be delivered at your location.”

The app was developed after constraints occasioned by the rolling Covid-19 nationwide lock-downs that curtailed movements of ordinary people without a government pass.

Stockists will also learn which promotions are ongoing, as well discover what new brands are being introduced. It is an interface that allows for more connected orders to be made and it facilitates trade in the company’s products removing operational bottlenecks that sometimes bogged down deliveries, other officials said.

Payment for these would also be automated, reducing the need for the movement of bulk cash in these deliveries, Kilonzo said.

Ben Mbuvi, the UBL Sales Director said they hoped to do more sales after buyers get used to the new order method.

“The last two years were difficult for us because when Covid came there was no movement because there was a curfew,” he said at the event.

“Today we are launching a game-changing application that will enable Ugandans to talk to us on how they want to be served,” he said.

The application has already been well-received in both Kampala and Gulu where it has already been launched. Soon they will go to all urban centres.

“The entire country is going to be covered via Diageo One and we are giving you the freedom, the flexibility and ultimately the power to decide how you want to be served by UBL at the comfort of your homes and of your businesses.”

Former MP Kashari North, Hon Yaguma Rutashokwa — who has owned a beer depot in Mbarara for the last 28 years — celebrated the milestone.

“When we started in 1994 to make an order you had to travel to Kampala. Today, you sit in your office, make an order and the products will come to you,” Yaguma said.
