Kampala city deserted after bombs strike

KAMPALA – Kampala City has been temporarily deserted following multiple terror attacks and reports of suspected bombs in the suburbs.

The first bomb went off Tuesday morning at the Central Police Station (CPS) along Buganda road, in the Central Business District killing two Police constables and injuring scores.

Minutes later, the second blast went off at IPS building along Central Business District along Parliamentary Avenue also injuring several. Before other two reportedly detonated at Kamu Kamu building along Entebbe Road and at Mabirizi Tower along Kampala Road.

Another bomb scare was reported in Nansana Municipality in Wakiso district before immediately security started forcing people out of the city.

All buildings and arcades were ordered to close, while some shop owners closed their stocks voluntarily before chaos could escalate.

Thousands of city revelers were seen scampering for taxis along Kampala Road amidst tight security watch, while taxi touts also made a juicy catch of the day at least by 11am.

All city buildings were sealed off, with security sniffer dogs taking lead as the search for more explosives rage on.

Police was seen dispersing crowds near the Old Taxi Park, with eminent failure as dwellers insisted on keeping within the vicinity of their work stations, as security took guard of Commercial Banks and other important commercial installations.

Burton street, Johnson street, William street and sections of Buganda Road were all closed off as security manned the situation.

The terror attack in Kampala has left at least 6 people dead, including two police officers, and civilians. The suspected Allied Democratic Forces terrorist also perished in the attacks, which left 33 people nursing injured.

Police Spokesman Fred Enanga says, at least one person identified as Moze has been arrested in Bwaise, a Kampala suburb to aid police investigations after police found explosive devices at his home.
