ICA welcomes new members in 2022

The ICA has now 314 member organisations from 107 countries, of which 272 are full members

LONDON-The International Cooperative Alliance [ICA] recently welcomed two members in September: Cooperativa de Ahorro y Crédito CACEENP Limitada from Honduras and Coopérative Centrale d’épargne et de crédit du Kivu [COOCEC-KIVU] from the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

A financial cooperative, CACEENP was founded by employees of the National Port Company. Today the cooperative is open to all citizens. With more than 38,000 members and HNL1.8 billion assets, it is the country’s sixth most important financial cooperative.

COOCEC-KIVU is an umbrella organisation for primary savings and credit cooperatives. It comprises seven savings and credit co-ops with 25,000 individual savings members and 2,000 borrowers. The apex focuses on consolidating the links that unite the COOPECs and to defend their interests, promoting their growth and development, promoting the expansion of the cooperative philosophy, tackling poverty and stimulating inter-cooperation between members.

The ICA has now 314 member organisations from 107 countries, of which 272 are full members and 42 are Associate Members.

Meanwhile, cooperators from around the world recently attended the Global Innovation Coop Summit to discuss the movement’s role in tackling some of the world’s greatest challenges.

A hybrid event, the Summit was held in person at Crédit Agricole’s headquarters in Paris and online. It featured plenary sessions and panel discussions on a range of topics, including climate change and energy transition, the Sustainable Development Goals, digital innovation, generational transition and leadership.

The Summit will be a recurring event. Next year’s edition will take place at the Alphonse and Dorimène International Institute for Cooperatives in Montreal, Canada. The event is organised by Wex and founders Jean-Louis Bancel, Stephane Bertrand, Joanne Lechasseur, Luiz Branco and Christina Procopio, some of whom were also involved in the International Summit of Cooperatives in Quebec. This was the first time the event was held in person, after four other online-only events between 2020 and 2021.
