ICA welcomes new member from Nepal

The International Cooperative Alliance [ICA] has welcomed a new member in the name of the Nepal Federation of Savings and Credit Co-operatives Union [NEFSCUN] from Nepal.

NEFSCUN is the member-based national apex organization of Savings and Credit Cooperative Societies [SACCOS and credit unions] and their District Unions [DUs].

NEFSCUN is committed to the development, promotion, and strengthening of its member organisations through supporting SACCOS and DUs in their aim to contribute for the upliftment of financial, social, and cultural aspiration of individual members of respective community by following the international credit union principles.

NEFSCUN has reached 76 districts and able to cover 3.53 million individuals in the financial mainstream. Every Year, NEFSCUN provides cooperatives management training for more than 20,000 leaders and staff. It has supported formal finance access to the poor and managed their cooperatives locally with global tools and techniques.

The ICA now has 315 member organisations, of which 273 are full members and 42 are Associate Members, from 107 countries.

In December 2022, ICA welcomed a new member Cooperativa de Ahorro y Credito Herrera, Inc. [COOP-HERRERA] from the Dominican Republic.

COOP-HERRERA is a savings and credit cooperative with 39,333 individual members and a turnover of DOP 6,653,790,193 [EUR 118,038,238].

The coop already follows the ICA’s guidelines and proposals, and frequently participates in its activities. COOP-HERRERA has joined the ICA as a member in order to strengthen the cooperative integration system and be directly linked to the ICA.
