ICA to hold side-event at UNESCO Mondiacult 2022
The conference will feature round tables, panel discussions, and keynote presentations
LONDON-The International Cooperative Alliance [ICA] is hosting a hybrid side event as part of the UNESCO World Conference on Cultural Policies and Sustainable Development – Mondiacult 2022.
Due to take place on September 26, 2022, the event “Cooperatives are Key Stakeholders in advancing SDGs through Culture and the Creative Sector” will advocate for including cooperatives in the global policy processes and dialogues concerning culture and sustainable development.
The conference will feature round tables, panel discussions, and keynote presentations on the importance of cooperative culture and the role of cooperatives in safeguarding cultural heritage.
According to the organisers, main topics of the side event are: Deepening the understanding of the inscription of the idea and practice of organising shared interests in cooperatives as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO; Acknowledging the role of cooperatives to ensure decent work [SDG8] in the cultural and creative sector.
The other theme of discussion will be: “Realising further the 5th Cooperative Principle: Education Training and Information as an important instrument to promote cooperative culture and advance SDG4: Quality Education.”
The event seeks to advocate for including cooperatives in the global policy processes and dialogues concerning culture and sustainable development.

The event will rely on a great line-up of speakers from the cooperative movement – in particular in the cultural and creative sector -, international organisations, and governmental bodies. They will participate in the vibrant discussion.
Among those expected to speak at the event are; Ariel Guarco – President, ICA, Susanne Westhausen – President, Cooperatives Europe, and Graciela Fernández Quintas – President, Cooperatives of the Americas.
