MAPUTO, June 10, 2026 — The International Co-operative Alliance Africa [ICA-Africa] has elected Kenyan Macloud Malonza as its new President during the 12th Technical Committee Meeting of the African Ministerial Co-operative Conference [TCAMCCO] currently underway in Maputo, Mozambique.
Elected yesterday, Malonza succeeds the late High Chief Tajudeen Oriyomi Ayeola of Nigeria, who passed away on December 25, 2025.
His election comes at a time when cooperatives across Africa are seeking to strengthen financial inclusion, expand trade opportunities and enhance member participation in economic development.
Congratulating Malonza on his election, ICA President Ariel Guarco expressed confidence in his ability to advance the co-operative movement across the continent.
Malonza assumes the presidency after serving as Vice-President of the ICA-Africa Board and later as Acting President following the death of Ayeola, who had led the organisation until his passing.
A veteran cooperative leader, Malonza brings decades of experience to the position. He currently serves as Chairman of the Co-operative Alliance of Kenya [CAK], the apex body representing Kenya’s co-operative movement.
The CAK brings together more than 22,000 co-operative societies and unions with a combined membership exceeding 15 million people, making it one of Africa’s largest co-operative networks.
Beyond CAK, Malonza has held several senior leadership positions within the cooperative sector. He previously served as Vice-Chairman of the CAK Board and currently chairs Harambee SACCO Society Limited, one of Africa’s largest savings and credit cooperatives.
He also serves as Chairman of Coop Holdings Co-operative Society Limited, the majority shareholder and strategic investor in the Co-operative Bank of Kenya, where he is Vice-Chairman. Through these roles, he has played a significant part in shaping co-operative enterprises and financial institutions serving millions of people.
With Malonza at the helm, ICA-Africa is expected to pursue a renewed agenda focused on strengthening member engagement, deepening cooperation among African cooperatives and promoting co-operative-led socio-economic development across the continent.
ICA-Africa said it looks forward to a period of transformative growth and stronger collaboration under Malonza’s leadership.
