Hoima City schools celebrate impressive performance in 2022 PLE

HOIMA-Parents, Teachers, and pupils in Hoima City are over the moon over the impressive performance in the 2022 Primary Leaving Examinations [ PLE ].

In different schools that this reporter visited, parents, pupils, and teachers were found jubilating for their excellent performance after Uganda National Examination Board [UNEB] released the results on Friday.

At Flobbeto Nursery and Primary School Hoima City, all candidates passed. Five candidates scored 4 aggregates, 21 candidates had 5 aggregates while those with 6 aggregates were 30.

Those who scored 4 aggregates include Samwiri Batuhaire Barongo, Joan Kemgisa, Mercy Gloria Atuhairwe, Oliver Faith Ayebale, Marvin Kyomuhendo, and Ernest Johnmary Akuizibwe among others.

The school’s headteacher, Dominic Karyarugoku explained that they had 120 candidates who sat for PLE and they all passed in Division One.

He said he was elated with the result, terming it as motivation to achieve better results for the next few years.

St. Bernadette Primary School’s candidates also performed well with 37 candidates passing in Division One, 77 in Division Two, and six in Division Three.

Sister Jacinta Komuhangi the school head teacher of the school said only one candidate Webambazi  Arthor scored six aggregates while three candidates scored seven aggregates and seven scored 8 aggregates.

She attributed the good performance to the commitment of both the teachers and the candidates and support from parents.

However, at St. Jude Nursery and Primary School in Hoima City, 114 candidates passed in Division One while 10 passed in Division Two.

Six candidates scored 4 aggregates- Mbayo Johnson, Lillian Ahaisibwe, Alvin Amanyire, Hellene Asiimwe, Timothy Muhumuza, and Rosemary Karungi.

Samuel Oyata the school’s head teacher attributed the good performance to the good working relations between the teachers and parents.

One of the candidates, Samwiri Batuhaire Barongo thanked God for the good performance, adding that his parents and teacher played a big role.

Meanwhile, five schools in Hoima district did not receive the PLE results over the nonpayment of UNEB fees.

Harriet Kihumuro, the district education officer Hoima identified the affected schools as Buraru Church of Uganda Primary School, Kibingo BCS, Kyohairwe Primary School, Busanga Primary School, and Kasomoro Muslim Primary School.

Kihumuro said the results would be released once the schools clear the fees with UNEB.

She adds that Hoima district has registered 173 first grades of the 3,923 registered candidates while 153 candidates never sat for the exams and 822 were ungraded.

According to UNEB Executive Director, Dan Odong, a total of 714,702 candidates passed the examinations compared to 659,910 in the previous year.

Odongo said, overall, more pupils qualify to join the post-primary institutions this year. More than two-thirds of the candidates were from Universal Primary Education [UPE] schools, according to UNEB.

The total of candidates that passed in Division One was 114,617 representing 14.1 percent compared to 11 percent in 2020. In Division Two, there were 357,799 candidates, the biggest, while Division Three had 146,583 candidates. 95,702 pupils passed in Division Four and those who failed or were ungraded [Division U] were 97,109.
