Hoima City: Over 900 benefit from second phase of PDM funds disbursement

HOIMA, October 26, 2023 – The beneficiaries of the Parish Development Model [PDM] in Hoima City who did not receive the money in the first round have a reason to smile after the second phase of the disbursement of the funds was launched on Monday at Hoima West Division offices.

Swale Kajuma the PDM focal person and Hoima city production officer said during the launch of the second disbursement  of the funds said that Shs 919 million is available for the latest beneficiaries.

He noted out of Shs 919mln, Shs 914mln is to be disbursed to new 914 beneficiaries while Shs 5mln is to be given to the beneficiaries who in the first phase  received less than Shs 1mln.

He noted that Hoima City has given out the money to 480 enterprise groups, adding that 1,643 people have benefited from Shs 1.695bln received in the current financial year.

He said that beneficiaries have been sensitised on how to use the money, stating that they do not expect any beneficiary to mismanage the funds.

According to the PDM guidelines, the funds are meant for investment in enterprises like coffee, bananas, fish farming, dairy farming, piggery, poultry keeping, maize, beans, and beekeeping among others.

He noted that the challenges they encountered at first, as people not having national identity cards have been handled and beneficiaries are getting their money.

Hoima City Resident Commissioner, Baduru Mugabi  said that in the first phase they disbursed Shs 729 to 729 beneficiaries.

He noted that each ward in Hoima City has received Shs 100 million and that all the beneficiaries will be able to received Shs1mln each as the PDM guidelines require.

He noted that the city has registered an overwhelming number of people applying for the PDM funds meant to fight poverty in the poor households.

On his part, Brian Kaboya, the Hoima City mayor commended President Yoweri Museven for initiating the programme and challenged the beneficiaries to invest the money in profitable enterprises.

He vowed that he will not tolerate any person sabotaging the PDM, saying the programme was initiated by President Museveni to help the poorest Ugandans to create wealth for themselves.

Rosemary Kembabazi, one of the beneficiaries commended the government, adding that the Shs 1mln given to her will help to boost her poultry business.

The PDM was launched in February 2022 with the aim to move 3.5 million households still in the subsistence economy to the money economy.

Each parish of the 10,594 parishes in Uganda receives Shs 100mln each financial year as a revolving fund from which the beneficiaries borrow at a low interest rate.
