Gujarat State Co-op Union: Amin re-elected Chairman for 11th term

GUJARAT– Ghanshyambhai Amin has been elected unopposed yet again as the Chairman of Gujarat State Cooperative Union [GSCU], the election for which was held recently in Ahmedabad. This will be his 11th term as the chairman, says the Indian Cooperative.

K T Parikh, Chairman of Godhra Urban Cooperative Bank has been elected as the Vice-Chairman of GSCU. He replaced Dhirubhai A Chavda. Bhikhubhai Z Patel andi Arvindbhai D Tagadiya have been unanimously elected as Honorary Secretaries of GSCU.

The election for GSCU was held in December, 2019 for five years but according to by-laws of the apex cooperative federation the Chairman and Vice-Chairman have to get elected midway–that is after every 2 and a half years. Amin made it to the top post once again.

Exemplifying true cooperative spirit which cuts across party lines, Amin was supported by Congressmen too. While his younger brother is said to be one of the pillars of Gujarat BJP, G H Amin also belongs to the same party.

Talking to Indian Cooperative soon after getting elected, Amin said “I am feeling enthusiastic that I was re-elected unopposed for the 11th term as the Chairman of Gujarat State Cooperative Union. After defeating Atma Ram Bhai Patel who was the former Chairman of GSCU, at the time I was elected in 1993”, he said while recalling the history.

“I am thankful to my board directors who reposed faith in me as they have re-elected me unopposed for the 11th term as the Chairman of Gujarat State Cooperative Union. The board consists of 27 members. Spearheading the cooperative movement in the state, Gujarat State Co-op Union also runs training centers in the state.

He said” We would open more training centers in Gujarat. He also listed the training centers already working at Nadiad, Mehsana, Surat, Bhavnagar, Rajkot and Ahmedabad. We are also building a world class training institution for ladies at Bhavnagar which will be operational in a few months”, he asserted.

Amin is said to have created a record amongst all state level Apex cooperative institutions for the longest tenure as the Chairman.

As soon as the social media handle of Gujarat State Coop Ahmedabad shared the news it was flooded with congratulatory messages.
