Govt upgrades health centre in Tororo
TORORO –Residents of Tororo district now expect to get better services after government decided to upgrade Kyamwinula Health Centre II to health centre III.
The upgrading of the health facility located in Western division, Tororo Municipality will take Shs 889 million.
Government provided funds through the Uganda Inter-governmental Fiscal Transfer [UGIFT] grant. Construction works are expected to be completed in eight months.
He said the infrastructure to be constructed include; a general maternity ward, 2-unit staff quarters, four stance-lined VIP latrine, medical waste pit, a maternity pit and an upgrade of the out-patient department.
The Deputy Resident District Commissioner Tororo, Albert Amula reiterated government’s commitment to the provision of efficient health service delivery.
“This is being fulfilled through an upgrade of Kyamwinula Health Centre II to health centre III and the facility will be fully equipped,” Amula said during the groundbreaking ceremony for the construction works at the facility’s premises.
He tasked the political and technical leadership in the municipality to intensify supervision of the project so that citizens get value for money.
“I urge the contractor who is undertaking construction works to ensure that the people of Tororo get value for money from the facilities that they intend to set up,” he said.
The Mayor of Tororo Municipality, Orono Nyapidi commended the area MP for lobbying to have the health centre upgraded.
“I urge the contractor to ensure that the people of Tororo are employed during the implementation of the project,” Orono said, advising the contractor to work with the local leadership.
The district LCV chairperson, John Okea, tasked the contractor to consider the people of Tororo while employing workers.
“The same contractor is scheduled to kick start works of the upgrade of Namwaya Health Centre II in Nagongera Sub-county,” he said.
Yeri Ofwono, the Member of Parliament Tororo Municipality said pledged to lobby for more government programmes in the Municipality and ensure better service delivery.
