Govt sinks Shs 540mln in Ajuri County Emyooga SACCOs

ALEBTONG – The Government has so far disbursed Shs 540 million to Ajuri County, Alebtong district to finance the income generating activities of 18 Emyooga SACCOs.

This was disclosed last Saturday by the Government Chief Whip, Denis Hamson Obua, who was in the area to assess the impact of government projects aimed at creating jobs and wealth.

Speaking to the residents of the area Obua said: “Some people are saying the government has done nothing to eradicate poverty but let me tell you that under Emyooga Programme, government has sunk in Shs 540mln in Ajuri County.”

Obua also handed over a consignment of 300 iron sheets provided by the Office of the Prime Minister to six government-aided primary schools of Okokolako, Angem, Amononeno, Arwot, Awelokuricok, and Aput.

The delivery of the iron sheets, Obua said, followed a written request after heavy rains destroyed the roofs of the beneficiary schools.

He called upon the LC3 chairpersons in the area to assess how Emyooga groups were performing and make a report.

“I am happy because almost in every sub-county in Ajuri County, there are boda boda Emyooga groups and I was told they are performing better than other groups,” he said.

Emyooga is a presidential initiative on wealth and job creation and it is part of the broad government strategy targeting to transform 68 percent of homestead from subsistence to market-oriented production with the overall objective of promoting job creation and improving household incomes.
