KAMPALA, June 13, 2025 — Government has officially launched the 31st National Agricultural Show and the 4th National Agricultural Education Show, two flagship events aimed at revitalising the country’s agricultural sector through innovation, youth engagement, and knowledge sharing.
Speaking at the launch event held at the Uganda Media Centre in Kampala, Bright K. Rwamirama, Minister of State for Animal Industry, expressed pride in unveiling the two national events, which will take place at the Agricultural Showgrounds in Jinja City.
The shows are jointly organised by the Uganda National Farmers Federation [UNFFE], the Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries [MAAIF], the Ministry of Education and Sports, [MoES], and other key stakeholders.
“These events come at a time when Uganda is working diligently to reposition agriculture as a modern, productive, and profitable sector,” Hon. Rwamirama stated. “Agriculture remains the backbone of Uganda’s economy, yet it continues to face significant challenges, from low productivity and post-harvest losses to limited youth engagement.”
Promoting innovation and technological advancement
The 31st National Agricultural Show will run from June 27 to July 5, 2025 under the theme “Technological Innovations Driving Farm Wealth”. It aims to promote cutting-edge farming technologies that align with the Government’s strategic focus on modernising agriculture and boosting household incomes through science, research, and digital transformation.
President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni is expected to grace the opening ceremony on July 1, 2025, as the Chief Guest.
Exhibitors from across Uganda and beyond will showcase innovations including precision agriculture tools, climate-smart technologies, irrigation systems, and value addition machinery. Researchers, financial institutions, agri-tech startups, and farmer organisations will also take part in the exhibition.
Rwamirama urged all Ugandans, particularly individual farmers, cooperatives, and agripreneurs, to attend and take advantage of the learning and networking opportunities. “This is the time to learn, connect, and adopt new methods that will increase productivity and improve livelihoods,” he added.
Inspiring the next generation of farmers
Immediately following the main event, the 4th National Agricultural Education Show will be held from July 6 to 12, 2025, with the theme “Seeds of Change: Young People Driving Innovations to Harness Agricultural Wealth”. The show is specifically designed to engage youth, inspire innovation, and promote agriculture as a viable and fulfilling career path.
Janet Kataaha Museveni, the First Lady and Minister of Education and Sports, is expected to officiate the opening ceremony on July 9, 2025.
The education-focused show will feature school and university-led exhibitions, agricultural clubs, and platforms for young agri-preneurs to present innovations. Mentorship sessions with sector leaders will provide career guidance and business development support for aspiring young farmers.
“This initiative is central to our mission of transforming agriculture into a youth-driven sector,” Hon. Rwamirama emphasised. “It will help tackle youth unemployment while laying the foundation for sustainable rural development.”
A Call to action
The Minister praised the UNFFE for its continued leadership in coordinating the shows and called upon all ministries, development partners, civil society, media, and the general public to actively participate.
“Let us work together to promote innovation, skills development, and market-oriented farming that uplifts millions of Ugandan families,” he concluded. “Together, we can build a prosperous, food-secure Uganda.”
With today’s official launch, preparations are now in full swing for what promises to be a transformative two-week celebration of agricultural excellence, innovation, and youth empowerment.
