Global green coffee exports up 3.3 percent in June 2025-report
The report indicates exports of all forms of coffee from Africa surged by 28.1 percent in June 2025, reaching 2.19 million bags, up from 1.71 million bags in June 2024

KAMPALA, August 6, 2025 –– Global green coffee bean exports rose by 3.3 percent in June 2025, reaching 10.23 million bags, compared with 9.91 million bags in June 2024, according to the Coffee Market Report – July 2025, released by the International Coffee Organisation [ICO].
This, according to the report seen by this reporter, marks the second consecutive month of positive growth in the current coffee year, the report notes.
Despite this monthly improvement, the report says year-to-date volumes of green bean exports remain down by 3.0 percent, totalling 91.68 million bags between October 2024 and June 2025, compared to 94.52 million bags in the same period the previous year. The latest growth was primarily driven by Robusta varieties.
Exports of all forms of coffee
According to the report, exports of all forms of coffee globally increased by 7.3 percent to 11.69 million bags in June 2025, compared with 10.89 million bags in June 2024.
“However, the year-to-date exports still remain down at 104.14 million bags, as compared with 104.33 million bags over the same period a year ago,” the report states.
Africa
The report indicates exports of all forms of coffee from Africa surged by 28.1 percent in June 2025, reaching 2.19 million bags, up from 1.71 million bags in June 2024.
“Uganda was the main driver behind the region’s growth in June 2025, with exports up 51.4 percent to 1.01 million bags. A good harvest, and hence supply, associated with high international coffee prices and front-loading appears to explain this growth. In Uganda, a good crop from the main harvest in the Greater Masaka and southwestern regions was offered as an explanation by the Uganda Coffee Development Authority,” the report explains.
According to the report, Ethiopia also played a significant role in Africa’s double-digit growth, shipping 0.83 million bags in June 2025, a 15.0 percent increase from 0.72 million bags in June 2024.
“Expansion in the number of export destinations, increasing from 53 countries in June 2024 to 60 countries in 2025, as well as increased penetration of the Chinese market, appear to be some of the reasons behind Ethiopia’s success,” the report notes.
According to the Ethiopia Revenue and Customs Service, the country exported 0.42 million bags of green beans to China between January and June 2025, up from just 0.09 million bags in the same period last year.
Asia & Oceania
Exports from Asia & Oceania increased by 38.6 percent to 3.34 million bags in June 2025, up from 2.41 million bags a year earlier. The rise was largely driven by Vietnam, which recorded a 64.6 percent surge in exports, shipping 1.97 million bags in June 2025 compared to 1.2 million bags in June 2024.
“The rate of growth reflects a base effect, with June 2024 exports being the lowest for any June since the 1.02 million bags shipped in 2010,” the report states.
Indonesia also contributed to the region’s strong performance, with exports rising 63.2 percent to 0.65 million bags.
“This is the eighth expansion in the first nine months of coffee year 2024/25 for Indonesia, with year-to-date exports up 53.9 percent to 6.71 million bags. A better-than-expected harvest has increased exportable supply, supporting this strong performance,” the report explains.
South America
In contrast, exports from South America declined by 18.1 percent in June 2025 to 4.16 million bags, down from 5.08 million bags in June 2024. This marks the eighth consecutive month of negative growth for the region, following a 16-month stretch of positive performance.
The decline was primarily attributed to Brazil, whose exports dropped by 31.4 percent to 2.6 million bags, down from 3.8 million bags in June 2024.
For coffee year 2023/24, Brazil exported 50.1 million bags – the highest volume ever recorded – representing a 35.1 percent increase [13.01 million bags more than the previous year].
“A significant portion of this growth was in response to supply issues caused by a poor harvest in Vietnam, whose exports were down 11.7 percent, with a net loss of 3.31 million bags in coffee year 2023/24. With this supply gap now resolved, the pressure to respond has eased, resulting in a decrease in Brazil’s exports,” the report notes.
Mexico & Central America
Exports of all forms of coffee from Mexico & Central America rose by 18.0 percent in June 2025, reaching 2.0 million bags, up from 1.69 million bags in June 2024.
This marks the eighth month of expansion in the first nine months of coffee year 2024/25 for the region. Year-to-date exports stood at 12.13 million bags, an increase of 11.8 percent, the report says.
The latest growth was driven by Nicaragua, which exported 0.36 million bags in June 2025, up 50.6 percent from 0.24 million bags in June 2024.
Nicaragua has endured two consecutive years of poor harvests, with production falling from 2.83 million bags in coffee year 2021/22 to 2.19 million bags in 2023/24.
“The decline was driven by the El Niño weather phenomenon, which adversely affected coffee cherry development following the flowering phase,” the report explains.
For coffee year 2024/25, Nicaragua’s production is estimated at 2.79 million bags, expected to support increased export volumes. The country typically exports 94 percent of its total coffee production.
